Cypress's low pin count HyperRAM memory simplifies the design of embedded systems

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 6, 2016 — Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: CY), a leader in embedded systems solutions, today announced its low pin count HyperBusTM interface The new high-speed self-refresh dynamic RAM (DRAM) is sampling now. The 64Mb HyperRAMTM can be used as an external scratchpad memory for various applications such as automotive, industrial and consumer applications for rendering high-resolution graphics or running data-intensive firmware algorithms. The device has up to 333 MBps of read and write bandwidth and supports 3V and 1.8V supply voltages.

When used with Cypress's HyperFlashTM NOR flash, HyperRAM provides a simple, cost-effective solution for embedded systems by allowing the flash and RAM to share the same 12-pin HyperBus. Traditional systems with SDRAM and Dual-Quad SPI solutions require the use of 41 upstream pins on both buses to process data; the HyperRAM and HyperFlash solutions can reduce the pin count by at least 28, simplifying the design and reducing the PCB cost. HyperRAM is the ideal solution for automotive dashboards and infotainment systems, communications equipment, industrial applications and high-performance consumer electronics.
